Wicker shopping trolleys are beautiful but…
Week after week, haul reusable totes everywhere, look like a hunchback hobo with a bindle. A wicker shopping cart with ugly white plastic wheels?
Use Glass Jars Now
- Use glass jars at the bulk bins.
- Before you fill them up, make sure you have the right amount of weight.
- At stores, ask them to weigh them for you and mark the tare on them.
- You can weigh the jars yourself at other stores that have scales.
- When you pay for food only, the cashier will deduct the weight of the jar from the amount of food you pay.
- Don’t pay for all packaging and bring home whole fruit rather than jam.
How many people will forget to put a jar in their wallet? Which one does not own a glass jar?
If you need to look in the recycling bin, you should. Always bring your own containers. Encourage others to bring and use their own containers. The person who does not own a glass jar should bring their own containers when they recycle.

Carry Metal Or Glass Containers
Containers are amazing for packaging and storing food, non-food products, anything from cosmetics, and personal care products, to memories and secrets.
Glass containers are particularly well-suited for use in packaging, storing, and dispensing a variety of food products. Glass is often preferred over metal because it is relatively inert and because it is transparent, thereby allowing the product to be easily seen.
Use Bottles & Refill
We found that a large bottle of shampoo and conditioner takes up 1/3 of a gallon-sized bag, whereas a comparable-sized bottle would take up 1/8 of the bag.
And we can make our own soap in the kitchen sink.
- Take 5-gallon container of coconut oil, a small crockpot (5-quart) with a lid, and a large glass jar.
- Heat the coconut oil over medium heat on the stovetop and stir until it becomes liquid.
- Pour into the crockpot and left to cool.
- When it is cool enough, pour it out into a glass jar.
- Label it.
Kids prefer shampoo to baking soda/homemade scrap vinegar hair care routine, so buy in bulk.
Quickly master how to use the bottles. Long-necked bottles jam easy and take a while to fill. All of the food comes in huge plastic boxes at the shop. These huge bulk products greatly cut packing.
Make Your Own Produce Bags
For larger items at the bulk bins, such as oats, nuts, and dried fruit, and for buying fruits and vegetables, use the cloth produce bags.
The plastic bag ban doesn’t address the huge amount of plastic going into the bags, such as plastic produce bags.
Sew cloth produce bags, the same size, and shape as the plastic ones, and place them into my cloth shopping bags, so always have them on hand.
When bags are dirty, throw them in the washing machine. Zero-waste supplies are always in a bag, which you can make from the leg of worn-out linen pants.
